Traditional South Asian Thali – Vegetarian Long Table

Sunday 6 June 2010 at PANDORA art gallery. 13h00 to 18h00.

Reflecting the harmonious cuisine of the Ayur Veda, India’s ancient yoga
text, the menu is free of meat and eggs, and does not rely on pungent onions
or garlic. The delicate use of traditional culinary spices more than makes
up for their absence and promotes improved health, relaxed spirits, and good
karma!

In the traditional music and culture of spiritual India, the aesthetic and
sensual needs of society are not denied, but fully satiated by divine art,
music, food, and festivals.

The afternoon’s experience includes:

-Ambient temple chants accompanied by traditional Indian instruments, played
by monks from the local Krishna temple in Hatfield. These classic songs of
worship are simple and interactive- join in between bites!

-Mini-introductions to healing spices and the yoga of eating,
the uplifting tradition of mantra meditation to music,
and the colourful practice of “arati”, the ceremonial lighting of incense
and ghee lamps that takes place in Asian shrines and on sacred riverbanks.
